Samuel Pineles (1843-1928) |
One of the most important Zionist leaders in Romania. Initiator and President of the 1881 Zionist Congress in Focsani. Vice-President of the First Zionist Congress in Basel (08.29.1898), led by Binjamin Zeev Hertzel. His name was eternized in Israel and the town of Givat Samuel was established in his honor. His remains were moved from Romania and re-interred in the Mr. Hertzel cemetery, at Jerusalem. |

David Rinzler (1859-1930) |
A central figure of the Focsani Jewish Community, Secretary of the 1881 Zionist Congress. He was a Rabbi speaking to perfection five European languages. Married to Golda Zilberman, father of nine children. |
