Prof. Dr. Radu Manescu (Mintzer) was born at Focsani in 1912, the son of Rachel and Willy Mintzer and the brother of Dr. George Manescu.
As a teenager, he was active in the Zionist youth organization HaShomer Hatzair. He studied law and obtained his doctorate in law in Rome. During the fascist period, he joined the then-illegal Communist Party, was arrested and sentenced to forced labor for life.
After the war, in 1951, he was appointed Finance Vice-Minister in the Romanian Government, a position that he continued to fulfill until 1970. Subsequently, he served as Vice-President of the Investment Bank until 1973. In parallel with these positions, he also taught at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Sciences as lecturer and subsequently as university professor.
In 1985, he arrived in Israel and settled at Netanyia with his wife Ella Manescu.
Of the three children, one passed away, and the other two are living in Israel. Prof. Dr. Radu Manescu passed away in 1993 |
